Mammoet begins major bridge replacement project at Amsterdam Centraal Station
Mammoet has started a significant bridge replacement project at Amsterdam Centraal Station, working with Dura Vermeer. They will replace four steel railway bridges and one concrete bridge on the east side of the station, aiming to minimize disruption to commuters. This project is part of the High-Frequency Rail Transport (PHS) Programme, which includes various infrastructure improvements.
Mammoet will handle the transportation and installation of the bridge sections, which are being fabricated by Hollandia. The operation is primarily conducted on water to reduce city center disruption, with one bridge replaced annually until 2028. The process involves complex logistics, including the use of pontoons, cranes, and Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs).
The project aims to increase the station’s capacity for trains and passengers while maintaining minimal disruption to the city’s daily operations.
