Trouw Nutrition is seeking a Production Supervisor to oversee the warehouse and production departments while supporting the Plant Manager with ensuring a safe work environment, onboarding, and managing employees, communicating with other departments and customers, being accountable for financial objectives, and meeting or exceeding key performance measures. The position is based in Westlock, Alberta.

Responsibilities: 

Production Planning and Execution:

  • Manage production operations in alignment with Nutreco standards and procedures to achieve efficient and effective results
  • Coordinate production activities across shifts, utilizing common equipment, methods, and standards
  • Develop and maintain production schedules within established budgets and timelines

Leadership and Team Management:

  • Lead the production team to achieve individual and team objectives through goal setting, coaching, and regular feedback
  • Manage shift scheduling and team mobility for 24/7 operations
  • Onboard and train new employees in their roles, ensuring alignment with company standards
  • Provide coaching and development for team members to enhance performance

Safety, Quality, and Compliance:

  • Act as the first point of contact for quality, maintenance, housekeeping, safety, and service issues on shift
  • Enforce safety policies and procedures to minimize incidents and ensure compliance with HSE/Quality regulations
  • Promote food safety and quality awareness, addressing and resolving issues proactively

Operational Oversight and Reporting:

  • Monitor and analyze KPIs to assess production performance, identify variances, and recommend improvements
  • Ensure production targets are met while maintaining safety and quality standards
  • Assign and direct tasks on a shift basis, providing guidance and troubleshooting as needed
  • Maintain housekeeping standards in assigned areas

Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify and implement process improvements to optimize production systems and practices
  • Assist in the execution of continuous improvement projects

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Operate mixing and associated equipment effectively
  • Travel to other mills as required for meetings or ingredient pick-ups using a company vehicle
  • Be on-call after hours to troubleshoot production issues as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Skills and Expertise 

  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and operational best practices
  • Innovative, detail-oriented, and equipped with excellent interpersonal, influencing, communication, and leadership skills
  • Proven ability to delegate tasks effectively and a passion for coaching and developing team members
  • Experience in supervising employees, including performance management and fostering engagement
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in computer applications, with solid numeracy and accuracy
  • Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Demonstrated capability to lead and manage during periods of change
  • Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision, even in ambiguous situations
  • Commitment to ensuring safe and efficient plant operations 24/7
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and maintain an engaged and high-performing team

Qualifications: 

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive supervisory experience in a processing or manufacturing facility
